Books: The Often Hidden Information Source

I like to think of myself as an information specialist, savvy at finding what I need to know. I work in the academic world partly within a university publisher and partly within a university library; I should know something about information searching and accessibility. Yet I notice that finding information in books is tough. If I use my free-time interest, woodworking, as a concrete example, I am often interested in finding descriptions of furniture collections in historical houses, to use as inspiration. The typical scenario is that I figure there should be any number of books written about the history of European manor houses, which tangentially will include photos and descriptions of their contents, but I do not know in advance which books these are.

In the old days, one went to a library and using the cataloguing system tried to find sections with relevant material, but since I was usually looking for content which was not the main purpose of a book, this often did not work particularly well. In the digital age, one would suspect that this should have changed. Books all begin life in an electronic format, from which a printed edition is created and hence it is logical to expect days their content is searchable. However, visit virtually any library and one finds that the systems for looking for books have not changed much. Catalogs are now computer-based, but their content is not so different from the old card-based systems. In effect all you can search for are title, selected keywords (few) and authors' names.

So what does one do? The Google Books initiative has been controversial, but from the perspective of an information searcher, it is a godsend; finally it is possible to search in the full-text of a large number of books and while it may not be possible to read an entire book, it is usually possible to read a page or so around the content of interest. If nothing else, it allows one to know what books to look for in a subsequent visit to the library, or it allows one to make a more informed judgment about whether the book is of interest to purchase. The adversity to Google Books has come from some publishers and authors. I definitely believe that those that produce books should be paid, but there are many of us consumers that are far more likely to buy a book if we have some idea of its content (beyond a three-line summary). Certainly my book purchases have increased since Google Books came along. I find it very well worth the effort of building up a collection of books (and these days I have hundreds of books in mine) that cover topics of interest to me in my Google Books account and then the next time I am researching one of my woodworking projects finding some background or inspiration is relatively easy.

Too Many Cheaters Online Stealing Content and Selling It in E-Books

As a prolific online article writer, I am very upset that so many folks are so lazy, that they'd attempt to cheat and steal content, rather than do it right. There have been numerous cases where folks had found information in the public domain, compiled it into e-books, and then sold those e-books digitally online. Many of the old works which were scanned by Microsoft and Google and are now public domain, some of them 50 years old or more, have been repackaged and sold on e-book selling platforms.

The other day, I found some e-books that I had produced, and was giving away online at my website, and someone else had converted those PDF files into a format that was then loaded onto one of the most popular e-book selling websites. It still had my name on it, as the author, but of course the copyright was missing, and there was that e-book for sale, although someone else was getting money for it.

There was an interesting article in Fast Company titled; "Unmasking A Digital Pirate On Amazon," by Adam Penenberg published digitally on January 25, 2012.

"A Kuwaiti national using fake names and selling others' copyrighted stories in the Kindle Store sheds light on black hat hacker forums--and the theft, taboo sex, and swindles festering in the recesses of Amazon."

The article talked about how online marketers were discussing the ways to manipulate the system at the Warrior Forum. There were folks who were selling e-books for $20, and then allowing people to put their name on it, change the title, and put it onto Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or any of the other e-book websites and sell it in very specific and limited niches.

There was another article recently in the New York Times talking about a similar situation where someone was lifting paragraphs and pieces out of other very popular e-books changing the character names and what have you and reposting them. Obviously that is in violation of copyright law, but one of the biggest challenges with copyright law, or patent law is that it is up to the holder of the copyright or patent to enforce it.

However, with all of this fraud running rampant it's almost impossible to spend all of your time trying to enforce copyright violations and still concentrate on creating new literary works whether it be fiction or nonfiction.

As an online article author, and an author of a good many e-books, I am concerned for other authors who are doing it legitimately, as well as the e-book industry as a whole. The e-books have overtaken the printing industry, and tens of millions of e-readers are sold each month, but it is like the Wild West in the e-book industry.

Eventually the readers of these e-books will no longer trust the system, at that point everyone loses, and the print industry and publishing sector have already been all but destroyed. These cheaters, and lazy online marketers out to scam the public are going to ruin it for everyone. This is very upsetting to me, if you have any questions or comments please shoot me an e-mail, this is a problem we must solve.

eBooks Can Now Be Regular Books and Vice Versa

Did you know that eBooks can now be regular books and vice versa? Today I am going to share with you how simple it can be to turn your eBook into a regular book and how you can turn your regular book into an eBook.

The answer is so simple it may shock you. To put it simply you can turn your eBook into a regular book by going to Amazon and publishing your book on their website for free. That is right, you are not going to have to pay to convert your content into a physical book and what makes it even better is that once your book is on the Amazon platform you are going to be able to reach a huge audience of book readers unlike what you would expect at your local bookstore.

Getting started may seem a little bit overwhelming at first because the Amazon website is a huge marketplace but I am going to show you how quickly you can get started and how simple it can be to get set up.

The first place you can go to get information about the different options that are available to you as an Amazon user when it comes to self-publishing your content can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/seller-account/mm-summary-page.html?ie=UTF8&ld=AZFooterSelfPublish&topic=200260520

After you have reviewed the details of the options that are available and you are ready to get started, you will go to CreateSpace to get your account and to convert your eBook into both a digital book (that can be used on the kindle platform) as well as a physical print that Amazon customers can order easily from their website.

CreateSpace is an Amazon company and they walk you through step by step how to set up your account and publish your first book. They even offer a free cover creation program so you can create your very own cover. This can save you a lot of money versus paying someone else to create your cover for you. Covers can range anywhere from $5 to $150 depending on the company and the quality of their cover.

For your first cover though you can create your own and choose to hire someone else in the future when you are an established Amazon/Kindle author.

If you want to convert your regular book into an electronic one the method is the same, Amazon. When it comes to turning your eBooks into regular books it has never been easier than it is today.

EBook Marketing - Another Underestimated Traffic Source

Let me share with you today a fantastic traffic source that is being VERY much underrated...

Are you creating quality articles for your business providing value to the community? Are you submitting these articles to Article Directories? Are you sharing these articles within your personal Blog?

What if I tell you that you can submit your article in a complete different way, adding this new method to your Traffic Sources arsenal?

Have you heard before about eBook Marketing?

If not, I will enlighten you right away...

What if you grab one of your articles, and create an eBook from it? Are you getting the idea?

You can add a nice title, a table of contents... you can add some pictures (public domain or self-made) and Congratulations! You have just made an eBook from your article.

Of course you should make an eBook from an article that has 1000 words or more, because it has no sense to create a 3 paged eBook... Ok, you can do it, but personally if I am a visitor and I see an eBook with 3 pages, I will keep reading something else because it does not call my attention at all...

But If I see an eBook with a nice and catchy title, a table of contents, more than 15 pages, it will definitely call my attention, and so it will for your prospects!

So... what do you think about this? With a single article you have the opportunity to share it in another traffic source, to maximize your visibility chances even more...

You can add some affiliate link within the content, and also you can create a footer section with the URL of your blog, or your squeeze page. Use your imagination and you can do tons of things within the content of your eBook!

Ok... I've just created the eBook... so where can I upload it?

You can upload it into eBook Directories (search for "eBook Directories" in Google), just like Article Directories but for eBooks... more free targeted visitors for your business and even more exposure and back-links for your website!

There are many sites and this could be time-consuming, but it is really worth it, and many of them will make your eBook rank high in Google searches.

So... let's go back to the main topic, if you didn't know before about this traffic source, it's time to invest some time and create eBooks from your best articles don't you think?

I will give you one last TIP before I finish with this post today...

When you upload an eBook to an eBook Directory, you have to place a nice and catchy title to attract people's attention... but that's not all, some sites like Scribd will use this title to show the name of the eBook as a title in SERPS. So a bit of Keyword research won't be harmful...

What Are PLR E-Books, and How Can You Make Money Online With Them?

PLR e-books are books that give you "Private Label Rights" to resell. So, for example, if you purchase an e-book - you can either buy for your own personal enjoyment or you can buy the "private label rights" to sell them to your customers.

Often you can change the book cover and title if you wish, to make it more appealing and relevant to your customer base.

PLR e-books are great because you can purchase them, make changes to them (to fit your needs) - thought this isn't necessary - and resell them at a profit. The great thing is that you can resell them over and over again.

The best and most effective way to sell e-books (or any other product online) is to have a website or and an email list. (I have written several articles on how to build, maintain, and effectively use your email list).

Once you have your PLR books you can sell them to compliment your blog's information. You can sell them using a number of different services including e-junkie.com, PayPal.com, and ClickBank.com. These online companies allow you to send your e-book to your paying customers right after they pay for them. Taking only a few minutes to set up, you can have a working "shopping cart" with "Buy" or "Add to Cart" buttons directly on your website.

Now to be fair, you do need a way to collect your money, which is why you should open up a PayPal account. If you haven't already done so, you should do this as soon as possible.

If you already have a website, PLR books offer a great "secondary" product (or products) to offer during their shopping cart exit. The great thing with e-books is that you can tailor them specifically to your clients or customers. How much would they be willing to pay? Could you sell an e-book and make an extra $19.95 or $37 per check out? If you make nearly $35 extra on nearly each order, how much extra income would this bring to you? I would imagine quite a lot.

So, whether you offer your PLR books as primary or secondary products, a quite a lot of money is to be made when the margins of your product are nearly 100%.

The fact is that many business owners struggle to maintain a line of credit while they sell their inventory and only reap at most 30% to 40% of the actual cost. The standard for many industries is marking the product up by 33% or one-third of its wholesale cost. If you are tripling the profit margins, then you will generate more profits much faster.

Why not choose a safer and much more valuable product offering like e-books? Selling information is the cheapest and best way to increase your profits.

By no means is this the only page you'll be visiting today. However you can still leave with a personal gift that'll make a direct impact on your income.

Don't leave empty handed. Download your 24 page insider report now and grab 50 resell rights products you can use to give you a head start. Visit http://www.platinumresellrights.com/download?tid=ezine0019 now for more details.
